IN a recession you can be forgiven for being reluctant to invest in property,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], try your luck on the stock exchange, or even entrust the security of your hard-earned cash to the banking industry - so designer Roksanda Ilincic?keeps it somewhere far safer; her wardrobe.
The London-based, Yugoslavian-born designer has spent the last 10 years investing in a collection of original?Yves Saint Laurent pieces, sourced from charity shops and vintage outlets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and now owns more than 100 examples of the French designer's work.
"It's as if his collections are from a different planet;" Ilincic told the Sunday Times,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "a planet of beauty and elegance and things not related to reality. The whole fashion world is still inspired [by Saint Laurent]. Maybe there are only five or ten of these pieces left - you feel you own the original of where we are now."
Inspired by her 11-year-old self,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who callously destroyed a YSL dress of her mother's with the aim of making it "shorter and tighter,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Ilincic now seeks to rescue and preserve pieces she finds which are "destined to be eaten by moths."
