There are a million and one ways to eat yourself deliciously foolish in HK. Not merely are there are thousands of canteens which range from a stove and stools set up on the pavement to arm and thigh expensive eateries, the elements are amazing quality and even in this day and age 80% of all food shopping is done in marts or local neutral shops (this in a 1st globe country to boot). The vegetables and meat are super fresh and they taste like they ought too (Chinese house wives are notoriously hard to please - they understand what's in time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], what asset should taste like, and they want the best and the freshest for a decent price - and they pass that wisdom down to their kids). This may sound like a like rant but I've reading Shopped by J. Blythman and it's bloody depressing (but serviceable & momentous) peruse for anyone who loves to cook from scratch. Anyway, I love cooking (we eat in 95% of the time) so I wanted to share these HK neatness grocery pics...
One of many grocers in my Dad's family town. The presentation may leave a lot to be desired by western standards but the quality of the produce and the cost of it would put many so called western delis or edible lobbies to scandal...
Even meat is displayed at the front of the shop, already no one gets ill! The meat does taste very good though because it isn't intensively reared to the same scale for meat sold in the UK.
The Chinese are huge on preventative medicine and they like to beverage lots of mysterious smelling brews to reserve manifold maladies at gulf (alternatively hopefully improve virility alternatively prolong life!?). Nope,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I have not motif what anybody of the stuff in this picture is. I thought better of querying my Mum in case anyone of it was the penis of some needy unfortunate organism!

Food is exhibited on the street outdoor the shop and everything is sold by the end of the day. Notice the absence polystyrene bring an end to ...the area? Chinese folks tend to like the cheaper slits of flesh (and other unmentionables!) because we have history of being poor and the cheaper slits do have more flavour. In fact there was a time in the UK when you could get ribs and chicken wings from the butcher for free for they were braining for the trash, but because Chinese folks love them so much and made them popular with others we now must disburse - booo!
Here are some of the rest of the pics from my hol. There aren't loads of pics because I got really ill from eating something dodgy so toward the end of the vacation I had to stay indoors Sad
Ahhh I'm behind from my short hol in Hong Kong and had a lovely cup of rosy lee - tea and some yummy fish and pieces from the local chippy. Chinese food is my fave, but you can't get a good cup of Indian tea, or fish and chips in HK. It's also lovely to feel circled by space and sky anew, HK is really polluted and very tall heave.
Pretty pineapple all peeled and ready to dine? Like, yeah amuse,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]!
The weather was also pants for any sight seeing so I have no prettyscenery shots and we have did the temple and musem object a long timeago... Ah well, pretty pics next year.
I had a great time though, I love the sensibility of being emotionally re-charged and re-connected when you get attach with kin that you love but you virtually get to see, particularly when you get to look them 'back home'.
I have a pretty cool magazine accessible from all good electrial shops- visibly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]!
I admire Chinese veg. The flavours are so punchy, and they taste so healthy. When you buy fruit and veg in HK anything namely ripe and prepared to work (nobody of this put it on your window sill as week commerce). Food is ordinarily sold along the 20oz weight. The veg in the bottom right corner is called Choi Sum (likewise sold in lots of western supermarkets) and here it's being sold for approximately 0.15 for 20oz!!! Really tasteful and really cheap.
Back to sack business now, and I'm raring to go (yay!)
And lastly, a pic of an of the numerous many shopping Streets in Kowloon. It makes London Oxford St see deserted! There's are loads of funny curse word shops in HK such a Fuk Ho, Wan Kee, and...well, you get the picture!
Just a little chapter of the Lam Clan. Back, left to right: 1. My Dad's 2nd youngest bro - Paul (very mellow and cozy going); 2. Paul's wife, Judy (lovely, energetic ex Chinese Opera talent); 3. my brother Haymond (who graduated last year, he's funny, daft,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and good all round egg); My Dad's youngest brother's wife 4. Alice (quite smart IT human); 5. my Dad's youngest brother David (different clever & variety IT human); 6. My Dad! (he's a lovely bloke who would assist anybody, but does steer you a bit bonkers trying to inform you always of the period!), 7. My Mum,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]! (patient wife of my Dad, and worrying but large mum to her fowls, ruinously good cook (reside well away if you ambition to loose weight); 8. My Dad's 2nd oldest bro (Dad is oldest), Robert (distinct lovely bloke, he was forever the very chilly uncle who let you go on the macabre amusement just rides while Mum wasn't looking, and he always knew the questions to all of the 'what, why,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], & where' questions that kids ask non-stop). Front, left to right: 9. My Sister Wendy (agreeable, humorous, culture vulture, devourer of books); & 10. Me!
Greetings from London
