"I miss winning every week," he said. "That was fun."
Pro Bowl Is Not the Ultimate for the Giants' Steve Smith
"I don't think he's that much different," Mr. Carroll said of Mr. Smith from when he coached him to now. "He had the extreme ability to catch the football. He has fantastically natural hands, just beautiful hand-eye coordination…He did all of that stuff for us."
The staffer got a blank look in return. Then an "OK, thanks." [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
"I never know what he's doing there," Mr. Thomas said of Mr. Smith's end- zone celebrations. "That's 'Scuba Steve' for you."
Going into Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Mr. Smith had 43 catches for 471 yards and two touchdowns.
Mario Manningham (21 catches for 329 yards), the team's fastest receiver, has major big-play ability, too—and showed a slightly smoother celebratory end-zone slide in Dallas than Mr. Smith's post-touchdown dance.
Mr. Smith set the Giants' team record for receptions last year with 107. He went to the Pro Bowl, the franchise's first wide receiver to do so in 40 years.
"Winning on Sunday," he said. "That's the next goal."
The pair won a title together at USC—with current Giants corner Terrell Thomas—at the end of the 2006 season, with Mr. Smith catching three touchdown passes in that Orange Bowl victory. The next year the Los Angeles native was a Giants rookie, converting four third-down receptions in the Giants' stunning Super Bowl win over the then-undefeated Patriots.
SEATTLE—It was before the season, somewhere in the halls of the Giants' training complex.
He's comfortable with who he is, he said, and that ultimately is the one area in which he believes he has made the greatest gains as a pro, he said.
And in the way he dismisses his fantasy football worth.

"Hakeem should go to the Pro Bowl this year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said.
This is Mr. Smith, a 25-year-old who won a national championship at Southern Cal and a Super Bowl with the Giants and has an awfully sincere look when he swears he doesn't care about numbers.
Mr. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]'s (45 catches for 525 yards) always-impressive ball skills have gotten to the point, back-up quarterback Sage Rosenfels said, "where if you give the guy the chance, he's coming down with the ball more often than not."
Mr. Smith is not particularly tall (5-11) or stout (195). His speed in the 40-yard dash wasn't anything that dropped jaws at the NFL combine. But he was a load to handle in college and he is here, too, because of the way he creates separation from the defense.
But the Giants' Mr. Smith expresses as much desire to match that feat as he does to be a prime fantasy football producer. Which is to say: none.
The nickname came in college, courtesy of a character in the Adam Sandler movie "Big Daddy," and Mr. Smith showed no qualms in hearing it again.
A team staffer passed wide receiver Steve Smith, stopped him, and in an excited, half-joking voice told him, "I just drafted you last night in my fantasy football draft. I'm expecting big numbers from you."
It's in the way Mr. Smith works his shoulders, moves his hips and uses his "leans." He has what Mr. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] called a great "feel for the game," in that he understands coverages and how to get that separation. And nothing helps his quarterback more than finding that little distance, which makes him a clearer target.
Mr. Smith is equally adept lined up outside or in the slot, where he can— and does—make tough catches across the middle. Mr. Thomas said that's another part of Mr. Smith's game that hasn't changed since college. "He'll go up to get a ball and take a hit. He's really making the same plays he made in college."
And cornerback Bruce Johnson made sure to cement that as part of Mr. Smith's identity in training camp, when after trash talk from the Panthers' four–time Pro Bowl receiver Steve Smith, Mr. Johnson said the only Steve Smith he cared about was "the one that went to the Pro Bowl last year."
He's Eli Manning's most dependable pass-catcher, Mr. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said, but he also has great complements in the Giants' second and third receivers this year.
Mr. Smith was back on his native West Coast this weekend, to play the Seahawks and for a mini-reunion with Pete Carroll, his coach at USC. Mr. Carroll is in his first season coaching the Seahawks and he offered an insight into Mr. Smith's mindset when he was asked what he missed from the college game.
He smiled when he spoke of a video he tweeted professing his disinterest in people who discuss his fantasy value and he grinned when the topic was raised of the attention second-year wideout [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is getting.
"I've got more confidence," he said, "I think that shows up on the field." [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]

Don’t expect the NCAA to conduct one proper investigation, or issue findings and approvals that are consistent with past precedent. toews have one long track recording of inconsistency with unfair findings and approvals.
Of course,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the NCAA usually does not find out especially for long standing problems like sports agents paying the top student athletes because athletes and agents are very affable at keeping it one secret.
“Finally tonight, one few words about crime and punishment. I’m no legal expert, not by one long shot,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I do believe that driving drunk, robbing one convenience store, and hitting your girlfriend are all worse offenses than dealing with an agent. Most people would agree with that I think, except, it seems, the folks in charge of college football.
Bryant Gumbel’s closing statement on Tuesday night’s episode of Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel on HBO furiouse an excellent point that is ignored by most media as follows:

"gaze, see, glance, watch,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], survey, study, seek,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], search for,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], peek,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], peep, glimpse, stare, contemplate,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], examine,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], no one’s naïve enough to think football’s ever going to be played by one bunch of choirboys. It’s not. But you’d think that NCAA officials could,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], at the very least, give coaches and athletic directors one reason to be as diligent about illegality as toews are about eligibility-and right now toews don’t. Until and unless toews do, the NCAA’s idea of institutional control is anything but.”

"It’s not just about USC. NCAA investigations are ongoing at the Universities of Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina for the same kind of premature conversation with agents that Bush had. And it’s not just about Florida. Players at Pittsburgh, Missouri, Tennessee,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Oklahoma State, Southern Mississippi, UCLA and elsewhere have also been arrested this year. But all of those programs are, by NCAA standards, in full compliance.
One has to wonder about the priorities of the NCAA, and their treatment of student athletes.

What do you think? Should the NCAA continue to ignore many cases of athlete criminal activity at one college? The Christmas Cheer Board is the only thing that lies between them having a Christmas complete with turkey other food and presents for many families and individuals. However as said many times before, it is an unfortunate fact that hunger does not take a holiday. It takes place in Winnipeg and many rural areas. Winnipeg Harvest our local food bank supplies not only the hungry here but also sends food to other food banks across the states across US.
It is time to help the auspicious guy. He is going to win a jersey signed by NHL star Jonathan Toews and we are hoping it helps our Pennies from Heaven campaign shoot and score for our local hungry this holiday season. In my opinion no donation is too small and even a child can help by donating a single coin just just like our campaign. Because there are no restrictions even a kid within a few coins could win this jersey. What a great Christmas present that would be! Reggie Bush Secretly Took cash While at USC and the NCAA Hammered the Trojans Stephen Dunn Sidney crosby's agent said on saturday that the 20 years old plus like scoring tear Sidney Crosby has been on the last month has corporate sponsors falling all over the NHL superstar like never before. The level of interest has increased even since last year when jonathan toews scored the golden goal.
Finally someone in the media criticizes the NCAA about the University of Southern California Trojans punishment over the Reggie Bush violations, while doing nothing about the University of Florida Gators who have had 27 different players arrested in the short time that Urban Meyer has been the head coach.
But, break one NCAA rule and if the NCAA finds out about it, then watch out.

There is something very bad going on at the University of Florida football program, and the NCAA does not care.
The NCAA only holds colleges accountable for violations of NCAA rules,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but there is no rule about criminal activity by student athletes. It is up to the head coaches to deal with these issues, and it does not matter to the NCAA if toews do nothing about them.
"How else to explain the fact that the USC Trojans are currently on NCAA probation while the Florida Gators are not, even though Florida’s program has seen 27 different players arrested during the short tenure of Coach Urban Meyer. That’s right, by NCAA standards, 27 arrests merit not so much as an official reprimand. But dealing with one prospective agent prematurely, as former Trojan Reggie Bush did, gets your program punished for four years.
Making matters worse is the failure of the NCAA to work with the NFL to control sports agents and marketers, while holding colleges and athletes fully responsible.

Maybe the previous article about the “Eight Solutions to Fix the NCAA and Improve College Football” needs to add one ninth solution addressing criminal activity by student athletes.

But,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], do expect the NCAA to deny appeals even when toews break their own rules because how challenge anyone question their decisions.
