SCOTTISH born designer Jonathan Saunders showed audiences a preview of his autumn/winter 2006-7 collection last night at Edinburgh's inaugural International Fashion Festival, running from April 26 to 29. Initiated to give people insight into the inspirations behind the designers' work,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], these massively successful talks gave students the opportunity to ask questions about how each designer launched his or her career. According to McDowell, a "very down-to-earth and very Scottish" Saunders told the audience that one of the darkest times of his design career was a few days before his first-ever catwalk show in London. When putting the finishing touches to his final dress,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he spilled a tub of ink on the fabric but, despite having to remake the dress from scratch, it ended up kick-starting his career. When British Vogue's creative director Lucinda Chambers attended the show,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she loved the dress and used it on the front cover of the January 2004 issue and, as a result, Jonathan's profile rocketed to buyers from around the world.
