As Teva’s most accessible trail shoe, the makeover of the X-1 Control was subtle but welcome. Mostly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], our testers noticed the new last and its snugger fit. While the toe box still accommodated most feet, the midfoot and forefoot were a bit tight for our high-volume testers. The smooth transition of the Control remains, and although there is a forefoot protection web to guard against bone bruises,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], testers still found the low-profile shoe skimped on cushioning against trail abuse, at least over longer runs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], more rugged miles,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or for heavier-footed runners. The Control ran well on and off pavement,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and Teva’s relaxed approach to pronation control through a dual-density midsole was unobtrusive. Finally, Teva made its sticky rubber outsole more durable and, as a side effect, it struck our testers as percussively hard on impact with rocks or paved surfaces.
