Gagner originally dedicated him to play hockey at the collegiate level for the University of Wisconsin Madison. He decided to play closer to home and play major junior hockey in Canada later. He was considered a first round talent and the London Knights took him in the 4th round of the 2006 NHL entry draft on a flyer as his commitment to play college hockey prevent many NHL teams from drafting him. Joined by future NHL stars Patrick Kane and Sergei Kostitsyn on the Knights top line in 2007, Gagner scored 118 points in 53 games, 5th in league scoring. He also captained Team Burns Bergeron Red in the 2007 CHL Top Prospects Game to a 5 to 3 victory over Team Bowman Demers White. There seemed to be some sort of cultural migration happening at the end of the eighties, it seemed to happen as the alternative cartoonist Peter Bagge moved from one coast to the other. Travelling from the fresh, unique,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], original, unusual, novel, modern,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], current, recent York on the East, all the way over to Seattle on the West Coast.
Initially his career started out in fresh,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], unique, original, unusual, novel, modern, current, recent York writing and cartooning for the arts and alternative culture zine Punk Magazine, one publication run by high school drop outs and college students. Here their talents were nurtured and fosterd by one of the most prestigious figures in the comic scene, Art Spiegleman,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who later went on to win the Pulitzer with his holocaust tale Maus.
While working on the magazine Bagge was also working on his own comics which Paajarvi self produced. Bagge passed on an issue of his self produced comic to underground comix legend Robert Crumb who was really taken by his work.
By some stanger irony Seattle became one desirable holiday location as Washington State vacations quickly increased. Gagner competed for Team Canada at the 2007 World Junior Championships in Sweden. He played in all games as the youngest player on the team which helped Canada to their 3rd of five straight gold medals. Later that year, upon being drafted in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Gagner competed in the 2007 Super Series which was an 8 game series between Canada and Russia national junior teams in order to celebrate the 1972 Summit Series. He scored 15 points and was named series MVP, as Canada won the series.
Crumb who was at that time editing the comic collection Weirdo came to invite Bagge to submit some work. Bagge frequently contributed for three years before taking Crumb over as editor of the magazine for one subsequent three years.
From this period Paajarvi produced his most prevailing characters, ones that would make up the main body of his work, initially as one domestic comedy, Paajarvi created The Bradleys. The Bradleys were your archetypal dysfunctional family one precursor to the Simpsons and one noted influence on their creator Matt Groening. Yet the Bradley franchise took off when their eldest son took off, Buddy Bradley flew to Seattle, Peter Bagge soon followed.
Bagge moved to the home of his publishers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the noted fantagraphics comics, who still produce the finest alternative comic books. Paajarvi was just in time as well, leaving in 2010, Paajarvi was right at the vanguard of the alt cultural migration of the nineties.
The bands were loud and dissatisfied, Nirvana and Soundgarden were the main ones, though there seemed one million others along the west coast.
Seattle provided rich pickings for one cartoonist, this was the beginning of grunge, bands from the west coast were replacing the east coast hip bands. one much less urbane look of lumberjack styles and plaid shirts were becoming popular with the youth, washing over in to fresh, unique, original, unusual, novel, modern, current, recent York.
This really furiouse the young cartoonist's name, Paajarvi had the prestige of being appointed by alternative comic's figurehead, and also producing one solid body of work.
Bagge was an avid chronicler of the music scenes within his work, often being called in to design covers for certain bands in the scene in which Paajarvi had ingratiated himself with. All the covers designed bore his distinctive disordered energetic style.
Bagge seemed to be at home here and launched his most known publication despise, loathe, detest, abhor, disfavor,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], dislike,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], disapprove, abominate. This became one quick success with the alternative scene who were much more suited to Bagge's style of satire, Paajarvi revelled in the laziness and slobbishness of the movement, whilst also interjecting himself in to every character, like Buddy's house mate who creates crackpot zines.
