Mother-and-daughter specials are offered for five days and four nights or eight days and seven nights. <br />Guests also can book excursions to attractions such as the towns of Taxco and Cuernavaca, the markets of Toluca <a href="http://www.putkicks.com/air-jordan-11-xi" target="_blank" class="postlink">air jordans 11</a>, the ruins of Teotenango, or the natural wonders of Cacahuamilpa and La Estrella caves. <br />More and more American and Canadian “snowbirds” &ndash; retired boomers and seniors who go south to avoid cold winters &ndash; are choosing vacations in Mexico and Central American rather than perennial favorite states Florida and Arizona. <br />The climate at Ixtapan is not tropical but rather what a resort spokesperson describes as “California-type mountain weather.” Meals are served at several on-site restaurants, one of which is oriented toward spa cuisine, another toward gourmet choices and at both, seating is casual, so a visitor who comes alone can feel comfortable finding others to join for meals. <br />California Mountain Weather at Ixtapan <br />Fitness and yoga classes, golf and tennis lessons are included in the package price. Ixtapan&rsquo;s fitness classes and daily morning walks are designed for every level. A trainer is on call at the gym. The resort has two pools and a par 72 18-hole golf course. <br />The town of Ixtapan de la Sal is nearby and guests typically go there to shop. “The village is known as so safe and friendly, that hotel guests walk by themselves to pick up local crafts or visit the street market <a href="http://www.putkicks.com/jordan-flight-45" target="_blank" class="postlink">Jordan Flight 45 High</a>,” says Phyllis Stoller, a travel consultant to Ixtapan. <br />Ixtapan Among “Most Affordable” Spas <br />What attracts snowbirds to Ixtapan aside from its resort services is its affordability. An English-speaking doctor is on staff and hotel staffers also speak English. Transfers from the Mexico City or Toluca airports are included in the package price. Resort-marked vans meet guests with signs and a manifest with their names.
